Finally A Bit of Spring

Finally a bit of sunshine. May is finally blessing us with some warmer weather.  It is white asparagus (spargel) season all over Germany and here at the Keller. Germans are CRAZY for it (although truthfully I like green asparagus best). Perhaps because spargel and rhubarb are the heralds of spring here.  Mayday, the official opening…

Barrel Maker Workshop/Fassfabrik

Last week I visited the Wilhelm Schmid Fassfabrik (click here to read more). This is the last cooper workshop in the region, one of the few actually left in Germany.  They make and repair the wooden beer barrels used at the Augustiner Keller and other breweries.  They also produce wine and garden barrels, mugs, furniture…

We are having a week of spitting snow here in Munich. Whaaaaat? Next week is May and the official opening of the Beer Garden.  Saturday is supposed to be the famous spring flea market for “Fruhlingsfest”.   Things do not look promising.

Out With the Old

Ah, Munich had a taste of spring this week, so over at the Keller it means out-go-the-curling-lanes and in come the fest-tables.  A new picture gallery will be uploaded onto the home page soon, so you can see how everyone here is preparing for spring and the beer garden season.

Tracht and Country Expo, Fall 2016: El Picaflor

El Picaflor was at the Espo with it’s usual lovely feminine styles, all dressed up for spring.  Svenja Liehn showed me an number of soft, pastel numbers just right for when things blossom next year. The beautiful floral printed baby blue dirndl Svenja is holding has an apron trimmed with lovely lace from Spain (see second photos)….
